Volta Region: Fulani herdsman beheaded by unemployed youth leader at Alabota

A 40-year-old Fulani herdsman, Sulley Hassan met his untimely death when a notorious unemployed youth leader Selase Dotse killed him without any provocation at Alabota in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The deceased’s son took the animals to graze but had cause to report to him that Selase Dotse had kept the animals hostage and killed one of them for no apparent reason.

The deceased then followed-up with his son to enquire why the attack on the animals. Selase Dotse, the suspect, did not take kindly to the action by Hassan and asked him to wait.

Shortly after, Selase Dotse returned with a sharp CUTLASS suspected to be the one he used to kill the cow and attacked Hassan the Fulani man and killed him, chopped off his head and bolted.

The Assembly member of Dorfor-Adidome Electoral Area, Tse Jupiter Zietor who spoke with 3news reporter at Alabota community, said the son of the deceased reported the negative situation to him after he witnessed such bizarre circumstances leading to the death of his father.

Mr. Azietor said he immediately informed elders of the community and accompanied them to the house of the suspect, but he was not in the house. They however found the beheaded body of the Fulani man near his house.

Following the disappearance of Selase, the Assemblyman said he mobilized the youth in the town in search of the suspect after informing the police at Juapong about the incident.

According to the Assemblyman, the youth quickly responded and embarked on a search in the entire community, but Selase was not found. The police who responded without hesitation with support from the elders of the community continued with the search to another community called Agorveme where the suspect was found, and apprehended. The head of the Fulani man was found in his possession.

The police, according to the Assemblyman, collected the body with the chopped head and deposited it at the Tagadzi mortuary, while they continue with their investigation into the incident to pave way for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Assemblyman revealed that suspect Selase Dotse once attempted murder on his younger brother as he stabbed him with a sharp knife, which led to his arrest by the police but was released based on family plea.

When contacted, the Juapong District Police Commander, Supt. Mr. Promise Agbanyo confirmed the incident, but declined to comment further, saying he was not authorized by his superior officers to speak with the media.
