We’ve all seen advertisements for wrinkle care, “anti-ageing” regimens, and many other products geared towards older and ageing women.

Ageing is an inevitable part of life, but it doesn’t mean we have to let wrinkles and grey hairs stand in our way. So, the next time you want to try something new for your skin, take a look at the foods you eat first! In most cases, it’s a cheaper and healthier alternative and something that will also improve your health!

1. Tomatoes

These guys are high in vitamin C, which boosts collagen production to replenish your skin, hair, and nails. So, if you’ve ever noticed face masks that had “tomato” listed in the ingredients, it’s for a good reason! Whether raw or cooked, the fruit is good for you, and your body will thank you for it.

2. Cacao

Now hear me out: this isn’t the milk chocolate that most of us eat. In Central America and South America, cacao is a very popular food people eat for health purposes. However, many claim the percentage of dark chocolate must be at least 65% or higher for it to be beneficial. (So, for those of us who like white chocolate, we’re SOL.)

3. Lemons

When life gives you lemons, make face masks and drink lemon water! Lemons can be used in a variety of ways to get skin-improving benefits. Simply squeezing lemon into your water or tea will not only add to the taste but also increase the vitamin C levels in your body.

4. Berries (blueberries, goji, and others)

When looking for berries, you want the ones high in antioxidants. This means that blueberries and goji berries are two of the best choices. Eating them raw, mixed in a smoothie, or in a salad will do. However you consume them, the berries will not only taste delicious but also make your skin feel amazing.

5. Beans/Legumes

For all the plant lovers out there, beans are very high in protein and help replenish the water we need for good skin. Whether you choose soybeans, edamame, or chickpeas, these beans are going to help in a variety of ways. In addition, soy products contain estrogen-like properties and are highly recommended for those who are nearing or have hit menopause.

Now, what exactly do all of these foods do for us? Well, they do a multitude of things to help replenish vitamins and other nutrients in our bodies. Some help with the collagen and elasticity in our skin, which is our biggest organ, and prevents wrinkles. Others help by loading our bodies with antioxidants, which reduce inflammation and lower our risk of chronic health conditions when consumed regularly.
