The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been advised to consider selecting a new candidate to contest for the Assin North seat in the upcoming by-election.
The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Richard Asante, who gave the advice, described it as suicidal for the NDC to allow Gyakye Quayson, to re-contest the seat.
Speaking to a section of the media, Mr Asante disclosed that due to the nature of the criminal charges facing the embattled MP, it would be prudent for the party to contest with a different candidate.
According to him, Mr Quayson, could be acquitted or imprisoned when prosecuted depending on the substance of the case.
He disclosed that in an event of any imprisonment, the seat will be declared vacant again, if Mr Quayson even wins the by-election.
According to the Vice Chairman, the NDC knows the risky aspect of it’s decision to permit Mr Quayson to contest the seat.
Mr Asante, noted that the NDC believes that if they neglect Mr Quayson, the court will speedily adjudicate the case, which could reasonably affect him.
Mr Asante said if Mr Quayson even wins the seat, it will not bar the court from dealing with the criminal matter.
