The Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of NDC, Mathew Kojo Njourkone has said the contributions of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to the strengthening of democratic government in Ghana are not disputed by the NDC. He noted that, on countless occasions, Otumfuo as a man of peace and wisdom has diffused lingering tensions between the leaders of various political parties and successive governments during his reign have benefited immensely from the wisdom of the Great King of the Ashanti Kingdom.

“He will normally not let tensions flare-up before he intervenes and often works behind the scenes”. He added.

He acknowledged that Political leaders who sometimes have not gone by, His wise Counsel have ended up with regret.
This is because Otumfuo allows people their free will to accept or reject his wise counsel.

He mentioned that, in 2012, Nana Akuffo Addo out of his own free will, refused to accept Otumfuo’s advice to concede defeat and went to court. This act of defiance on the part of Nana Addo took the nation to ransom for eight months before the case was settled at a huge cost of time, money and efforts.

However, in 2016, H.E John Dramani Mahama out of his own free will conceded defeat even before the final results were declared.

“This means that, the issue of accepting the electoral outcome depends on the individual presidential candidate.” He explained.

He called on groups, individuals and politicians, especially Wontumi who try to muddy the good relationship that exists between the NDC and Otumfuo to desist from making unnecessary comments on the issue, and rather focus on the inadequate developmental projects in the region, increased reported corruption cases within the government and the general economic hardship bedeveling the citizenry.

He gave the assurance that, the NDC will continue to respect the authority of Otumfuo and will always consult Him for his wise counsel on issues of national interest. He believes that the health of our democracy rests in part on our Traditional Authorities and the Party will continue to live in harmony with them.
