About 65 percent of the student wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region has thrown its weight behind Okai Mintah as the next National Youth Organiser of the party.
The massive endorsement, which cuts across various Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) branches in Greater Accra, signals strong confidence in his leadership qualities and vision for the youth front of the party.
According to leading members of TEIN in the region who spoke to this paper, Okai Mintah’s exceptional human and interpersonal skills set him apart from other contenders. They describe him as humble, approachable and respectful, with the ability to listen to concerns of young people and provide practical solutions.
They noted that he relates easily with students, party grassroots members and national executives, bridging the gap between the youth and the leadership of the party.
In addition to his personality, his long-standing relationship with the party has been cited as a major factor for the support. Party sources say Okai Mintah has served the NDC diligently from his days as a TEIN activist to higher party responsibilities, showing commitment, loyalty and sacrifice.
His understanding of party structures, from branch to national level, they argue, makes him well positioned to unite the youth and re-energise the NDC’s base for future electoral battles, particularly the 2028 general elections.
More importantly, supporters say his agenda for creating sustainable welfare for the youth is what has endeared him to many. He is said to have a clear blueprint to champion job creation, entrepreneurship training, scholarship opportunities and support systems for young people.
They believe his plan will not only benefit NDC youth but also contribute to broader youth development in Ghana, aligning with the party’s vision of empowering young people as agents of national development.
The youth groups say they have observed his efforts in mentoring young activists, providing assistance to needy students and advocating for better conditions for TEIN members across campuses in Greater Accra.
They are therefore confident that his election as National Youth Organiser will usher in a new era of vibrant, inclusive and welfare-driven leadership for the youth wing of the party.
They have consequently called on delegates, especially those from the Greater Accra Region, to rally behind Okai Mintah to lead the NDC’s youth front to victory in 2028.
