Kwadaso Onion Sellers in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region have revealed that, Ghanaians should expect onion shortage during this year’s Christmas festivities.
According to them, over 90% of Onion Sellers have already cut of their services from the business due to the local currency’s (cedis) inability to compete with the CFA and the Dollar.
They disclosed that,the onion they have in storage now is very small and they can’t buy more due to the continue fall of the cedis against the CFA and the dollar.
The Aggrieved traders lamented on the way they have to struggle to get more cedis before they could exchange with little dollars and CFA before they they can buy the onions .
They said,not long ago they used to change few amount of cedis to get more CFA and dollar but for now they have to change more cedis before they can get only 10 CFA
“Our businesses are collapsing due to high duties and the depreciation of the cedis” they added.
Speaking to newsmen , one of the traders, Alhaji Santasi disclosed that many traders keep quiting from the business day in day out because of the aforementioned situation at hand .
They also called on government to do something about the fuel prices because the price of fuel has also added up to the situation.
