The deposed Assin North Member of Parliament who is contesting in the upcoming by-election, James Gyakye Quayson has accused the government of not using the taxes judiciously.
In his view, the government is wasting the funds derived from ordinary Ghanaians through the e-levy and others.
“You are taxing the poor through e-levy and you also don’t use the funds properly,” he said as part of his campaign to be ahead of the by-election.
Mr Quayson also expressed confidence in winning back his seat in the June 27 by-election.
He said his conviction of winning the seata is non-negotiable.
“It will be a win-win situation,” he told Media General‘s Komla Klutse who is morning events in Assin worth, in an interview on Wednesday, June 7
“I am going to win.
That’s all I can tell you,” he stressed.
The interview followed the New Patriotic Party’s election of a candidate for the impending by-elections.
Charles Opoku, who hails from the same town as Mr Gyakye Quayson, beat his sole contender to emerge winner of the NPP primaries on Wednesday.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate says he is unfazed that someone from his hometown, Assin Breku, will compete him for the seat.
“Politics is not about where you’re coming from or your region.
It is about what you can deliver to your people.
“Politics is about confronting the challenges and finding solutions to them and the people of this community already have that faith in me.”
Despite beating incumbent Abena Durowaa Mensah in 2020 to annex the seat for the NDC, Mr Gyakye Quayson was deposed as MP for holding dual citizenship before he filed his nomination to contest the elections.
The Supreme Court affirmed a High Court ruling, ordering Parliament to expunge all records of the embattled politician from the Hansard.
Mr Gyakye Quayson says he is not back in the race for “a politics of games [but] I am here to represent the well being of the people of Assin North”.
