Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, has pledged his support to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ashanti regional branch, to re-establish their press center. The center, initially constructed by the NDC government in 2013, was demolished, and the land seized when the NPP government took over.
At the 2025 thanksgiving service and get-together ceremony held yesterday at the longford event centre in Kumasi, Mr. Kingsley Hope, Regional Chairman of the GJA, appealed to Dr. Amoakohene for assistance, highlighting the association’s desperation for a dedicated office space. In response, Dr. Amoakohene acknowledged the vital role journalists play in the country and assured the association that his office would facilitate the rebuilding of the press center.
Dr. Amoakohene plans to convene a meeting with the project’s initiators to gather insights on the center’s history and utilize his office to facilitate the association’s efforts. He emphasized the NDC’s commitment to recognizing the importance of journalism and promised to support the safety and well-being of journalists.
The Ghana Journalists Association, founded in 1949, serves as the umbrella organization for Ghanaian journalists, promoting higher professional standards, press freedom, and solidarity among journalists .
With Dr. Amoakohene’s support, the Ashanti regional branch can now look forward to a revamped press center, enhancing their ability to promote quality journalism and serve the community.
