The Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment has taken a significant step to enhance workplace safety standards in the Ashanti region with the establishment of a Health and Safety Enforcement and Compliance Special Task Force.

This initiative, led by Minister Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, aims to support the Factory Inspectorate Agency in ensuring employers comply with health and safety laws .

The task force will focus on monitoring workplaces, identifying violations, and enforcing strict adherence to safety regulations.

According to Dr. Pelpuo, employers in both public and private sectors are required by law to provide safe working conditions and protect workers’ health. However, compliance has been low due to the limited workforce within the Factory Inspectorate Agency, which is responsible for annual inspections and certifications .

The task force is equipped with a digital compliance app, allowing inspectors to register, monitor, and verify company certifications in real-time. This initiative is expected to improve workplace safety, increase revenue collection, and promote a culture of compliance .

Dr. Pelpuo emphasized the importance of workplace safety, stating that it is not a luxury, but a fundamental pillar of sustainable development and productivity. He urged employers to take responsibility for their workers’ safety and health, and for workers to report any safety concerns .

The Chairman of the Health and Safety Committee,Mr Daniel Ayikwei, also urged the task force to execute their duties diligently, ensuring that Ghana’s workplaces become safer and healthier environments for all .
