The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving health care delivery in the District as he joined health professionals to celebrate the 2025 Nurses and Midwives Week.

The event, held under the theme “Strengthening Nursing and Midwifery Leadership for Quality Health Care and Global Impact,” brought together nurses, midwives and key stakeholders from across the District to recognise the health workers.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Sedik praised nurses and midwives for their resilience, compassion and tireless dedication to serving communities, especially in hard-to-reach areas. He described them as the “backbone of the District’s health system” and pledged continued support to enhance their work.

As part of efforts to strengthen health infrastructure, the DCE announced that the Assembly will soon begin the construction of two new CHPS compounds to expand access to quality health services in underserved communities. He further disclosed that the Assembly, in partnership with a non-governmental organisation will construct a Nursing Training College at Kunsu, a landmark project aimed at boosting local training opportunities for young people.

Hon. Sedik also revealed that he has facilitated the admission of 40 students from the District into the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College to help bridge the nurse–patient ratio in health facilities within the District.

In a show of support for the celebration, the DCE donated GH¢10,000 towards the organisation. He also presented GH¢2,000 to the Best Nurse, acknowledging outstanding service and motivating health workers to continue delivering excellence.

The ceremony ended with renewed commitment from both the District Assembly and health professionals to strengthen leadership in nursing and midwifery, improve service delivery, and contribute to national and global health goals.
