Residents of Kumasi have commended the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for introducing a mechanical road sweeper as part of efforts to improve sanitation and restore the city’s reputation as the “Garden City” of West Africa.

The commendation follows a successful demonstration exercise conducted by sanitation services provider City Experts Group on some of the city’s busiest roads.

The road sweeper was deployed along sections of the Central Business District (CBD), including the Pampaso stretch, the Kejetia Roundabout and the Adum business enclave, where it efficiently cleared dust, litter and debris from the roads.

Many residents who witnessed the exercise expressed satisfaction with the machine’s performance, describing it as a significant step towards enhancing cleanliness and improving environmental sanitation within the metropolis.

They urged city authorities to procure additional units to support routine street cleaning operations and ensure sustained cleanliness across Kumasi.

According to the residents, regular deployment of the machines would complement existing sanitation measures and contribute significantly to efforts aimed at restoring the city’s enviable image.

The initiative forms part of a partnership between the KMA and City Experts Group, a sanitation management company contracted to provide cleaning services across the metropolis.

The company is expected to undertake waste collection and dust-control operations in key areas of the city as part of the arrangement.

Speaking after the demonstration, the Manager of City Experts Group, Mr Abubakar Shaibu, confirmed that the company had officially signed a contract with the KMA to support the assembly’s sanitation agenda.

“We have officially signed a contract with the assembly to meet the cleaning needs of the metropolis,” he said.

Mr Shaibu assured residents that the company possesses the required technical expertise, equipment and logistical capacity to deliver efficient sanitation services.

He stated that City Experts Group remained committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and supporting the assembly’s efforts to create a cleaner, healthier and more attractive urban environment.

The introduction of the mechanical road sweeper is expected to strengthen sanitation management in Kumasi and contribute to ongoing efforts to improve public health, environmental sustainability and the overall aesthetic appeal of the city.
