The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken a significant step towards accelerating urban and community development with the official handover of four major project sites to selected contractors for the construction of key healthcare, educational and transport infrastructure across the metropolis.
The site handover exercise, led by the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi today, marks the commencement of multi-million Ghana cedi projects aimed at improving access to quality healthcare, strengthening education delivery, and enhancing safe mobility within several communities under the Assembly’s jurisdiction.
According to official documentation from the KMA, the projects are being financed through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and are all expected to be completed within a strict six-month timeframe.
Authorities have emphasized that adherence to timelines and high construction standards will be closely monitored to ensure value for money and long-term sustainability of the facilities.
The flagship project under the initiative is the construction of a modern Pediatric Center with staff accommodation at Adum, near the KMA office.
Valued at GH₵ 2,261,456.00, the project has been awarded to M/S B-Mollie Limited.
According to the Mayor, when completed, the pediatric facility will include a specialized ward and residential accommodation for healthcare personnel.
The project is expected to significantly enhance maternal and child healthcare services in the area, reduce pressure on existing health facilities, and improve the overall quality of care for children within the Kumasi metropolis.
Speaking during the handover, the Mayor underscored the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening primary and secondary healthcare infrastructure as part of broader efforts to improve public health outcomes.
Education has also received a major boost, with the construction of two six-unit classroom blocks in selected communities. The projects have been awarded to M/S Bema Global Group Limited.
At Santasi M/A, a new six-unit classroom block valued at GH₵ 1,128,670.40 will help address congestion, improve teaching and learning conditions, and support increased enrollment.
Similarly, at Krofrom, a six-unit classroom facility costing GH₵ 1,158,474.24 is expected to expand access to quality basic education for children in the area.
KMA Mayor noted that the classroom projects form part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to improve educational infrastructure, reduce overcrowding in public schools, and create a more conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers alike.
In addition to healthcare and education, the Assembly is investing in transport-related infrastructure to enhance safety and accessibility, particularly during the rainy season. A total of four footbridges will be constructed across streams in the communities of Santasi -Anyinam, Amankwatia, Ohwim, and Baabiriem (Kokoso Asubonteng).
The GH₵ 660,163.00 project has been awarded to M/S D’Rigano Struct Limited.
The footbridges are expected to provide safe crossing points for residents, schoolchildren and traders, reducing the risk of accidents and improving daily movement within these communities.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has urged all contractors to strictly adhere to the six-month completion period and to deliver works that meet approved specifications and quality standards.
He stressed that the projects are critical public assets meant to serve communities for decades, and as such, shoddy work will not be tolerated.
Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to transparent project implementation and effective supervision, noting that the successful completion of these projects will significantly improve the quality of life for residents across the metropolis.
With the handover of sites now completed, construction activities are expected to commence immediately, bringing renewed hope for improved healthcare delivery, better educational facilities, and safer community movement in Kumasi.
