Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Appiah Stadium, has initiated legal action against TikTok content creator Emmanuella Arthur, known on the platform as “elladiariess”, demanding the removal of a viral video, a public apology and a retraction of allegations he says have damaged his reputation.
In a demand notice issued through his lawyers, Appiah Stadium denied allegations arising from a video published on TikTok in June this year, insisting that he acted appropriately throughout his meeting with the content creator.
According to the letter, Emmanuella Arthur voluntarily met Appiah Stadium at the apartment where he was lodging in Accra after accepting his invitation.
The lawyers stated that the pair held discussions at the reception area of the apartment complex, where Appiah Stadium paid for the food and drinks ordered during the meeting.
They added that several members of the public approached him during the meeting to take photographs because of his popularity.
The letter explained that after the initial conversation, Appiah Stadium invited the TikToker to continue the discussion in his apartment for privacy. It said she declined the invitation, a decision he respected before returning to his room without any further interaction.
However, the lawyers alleged that unknown to their client, the meeting had been secretly recorded and that the video was later posted on TikTok with captions suggesting that he had acted improperly.
They described the publication as false, malicious and defamatory, arguing that it was deliberately intended to expose their client to public ridicule and damage his reputation.
The legal team further maintained that Appiah Stadium, whom they described as a prominent political figure, had suffered significant reputational harm following the widespread circulation of the video and the public reactions it generated on social media.
The lawyers also contended that the secret recording and publication of the video without their client’s knowledge or consent raised issues relating to his right to privacy under Ghanaian law.
They have therefore demanded the immediate removal of the video and all related publications from TikTok and any other social media platforms under Emmanuella Arthur’s control.
The letter further called on the TikToker to cease making any further allegedly defamatory statements about Appiah Stadium and to publish an unqualified apology on her TikTok account within 24 hours of receiving the notice.
The apology, according to the lawyers, should be delivered in video format and remain visible for at least 14 consecutive days.
In addition, they demanded a written undertaking within seven days that she would not publish any further recordings, images, videos or statements relating to the incident.
The lawyers warned that failure to comply with the demands would leave their client with no option but to commence legal proceedings seeking damages for defamation, breach of privacy, injunctive relief, aggravated and exemplary damages, costs and any other relief the court deemed appropriate.
As of the time of filing this report, there had been no public response from Emmanuella Arthur to the demands contained in the letter.
