The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sadik, has embarked on an inspection tour of ongoing road works within the district, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and easing transportation challenges faced by residents.

The inspection focused on the reshaping of a 40-kilometre stretch of road linking Kunsu to Abesua through Asuogya.

The project, currently underway, forms part of a broader intervention aimed at restoring badly deteriorated feeder roads across the district to ensure safe and convenient movement of people, goods and services.

Addressing community members during the tour, Hon. Abubakar Sadik disclosed that upon completion of the Kunsu–Abesua–Asuogya road, the reshaping exercise will immediately extend to the Mankranso–Asuoabena road.

He further announced that the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) machine will subsequently be deployed to reshape the road from Mpasaso No. 2 to Asuoakoo, bringing relief to more communities that have long struggled with poor road conditions.

According to the DCE, the district is adopting practical and cost-effective engineering methods to enhance the durability of the reshaped roads.

He explained that water tankers will be used to properly water the roads, after which rollers will compact the surface to achieve a firmer and more resilient finish.

“This approach will help improve the strength of the road surface and extend its lifespan,” Hon. Sadik noted. “Even though these roads are not tarred, the method we are using can ensure they remain in good condition for about two years before significant deterioration sets in.”

Hon. Abubakar Sadik acknowledged that the majority of roads within Ahafo Ano South West are in deplorable condition, a situation that has negatively affected economic activities, access to markets, healthcare, and education. He stressed that improving road accessibility remains a top priority of his administration.

“As the DCE, it is my responsibility to make sure that roads in this district are motorable,” he said. “Good roads are essential for development. They support farmers, traders, students, and health workers, and we cannot overlook their importance.”

Residents and road users who interacted with the DCE during the inspection expressed appreciation for the ongoing works, noting that the reshaping projects would significantly reduce travel time, vehicle breakdowns, and transportation costs once completed.

The ongoing interventions form part of the district’s broader efforts to address infrastructure deficits despite limited resources. Hon. Abubakar Sadik assured the public that his administration will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to improve road networks across the district and ensure that more communities benefit from similar projects.

The road reshaping initiative is expected to bring temporary but much-needed relief to residents, while the district continues to advocate for long-term solutions, including eventual upgrading of key roads to bitumen standard.
