President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has called on the international community to embrace a renewed era of global cooperation anchored in shared development, unity, and mutual respect, as he addressed world leaders at the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
Speaking to an audience comprising heads of state, policymakers, business leaders, and development partners from across the globe, Mr. Mahama emphasized that the complex challenges confronting the world today—ranging from economic inequality and climate change to geopolitical tensions and technological disruption—cannot be solved in isolation.
He stressed that only strong, inclusive, and sincere global partnerships can deliver sustainable solutions for present and future generations.
According to the Ghanaian leader, the growing interdependence of nations makes cooperation not just desirable, but essential. He noted that in an increasingly connected world, the prosperity of one nation is closely linked to the stability and progress of others. As such, policies rooted in narrow nationalism, exclusion, and competition at all costs risk undermining collective global progress.
President Mahama urged governments to prioritize collaboration over rivalry and dialogue over division.
He called for partnerships that go beyond rhetoric and translate into practical actions that promote inclusive economic growth, equitable access to resources, and shared technological advancement—particularly for developing and emerging economies.
He further highlighted the importance of fair global economic systems, arguing that international trade, finance, and development frameworks must be restructured to ensure they work for all nations, not just a privileged few.
Developing countries, he said, must be empowered through access to affordable financing, technology transfer, and capacity building to fully participate in the global economy.
Touching on climate change, Mr. Mahama underscored the urgent need for collective action, describing it as a shared threat that transcends borders. He called on industrialized nations to honor their climate finance commitments and support vulnerable countries in adapting to climate impacts while transitioning to greener economies.
The president also stressed the role of good governance, transparency, and accountable leadership in fostering trust among nations. He noted that strong institutions at the national level form the foundation for credible and effective international partnerships.
The World Governments Summit, held annually in Dubai, serves as a global platform for dialogue on governance, innovation, and future-ready policies. Mr. Mahama’s address resonated strongly with the summit’s central theme of shaping governments that are collaborative, resilient, and people-centered.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Mahama called on world leaders to rise above political, economic, and ideological divides and commit to a shared vision of global progress. “Our collective future,” he noted, “depends on our ability to work together in unity, guided by cooperation and a shared commitment to development that leaves no one behind.”
His message was met with widespread interest and reaffirmed his long-standing advocacy for multilateralism, inclusive growth, and South–South and North–South cooperation as pillars for sustainable global development.
