DCE Acknowledges Traffic Crisis in Afigya Kwabre South, Promises Intervention

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Patricia Pearl Ankrah, has assured residents that traffic challenges on major roads in the district will soon be addressed.

She gave the assurance at a town hall meeting held at Akrowa, organised by the District Assembly in collaboration with community elders. Madam Ankrah said authorities were engaging relevant stakeholders to find lasting solutions to pressing issues affecting the area.

She explained that the meeting was to engage and educate the public on local governance and to showcase government development projects and programmes.

In her address, she emphasized the importance of collaboration between Assembly Members, chiefs and residents within theirrespectivecommunitis.

She urged Assembly Members to avoid discrimination and foster inclusivity in their duties.

Key concerns raised included poor road networks, traffic congestion and other infrastructure deficits impacting daily life in various communities.

The DCE appealed to traditional leaders to continue supporting Assembly Members to ensure effective governance and development at the local level.

In an interview with the media on the sidelines of the meeting, Madam Ankrah identified bad roads as a major cause of traffic congestion. She revealed that the Assembly was in talks with the sector minister to ensure that affected roads were rehabilitated.

She further disclosed plans to introduce additional buses to improve transportation and ensure the smooth movement of passengers to their destinations.

Madam Ankrah called on residents to remain calm and patient, assuring them that the government was committed to addressing the challenges confronting the district.

As part of the meeting, Mr Ebenezer Quarm, the District Development Planning Officer, presented the District Medium-Term Development Plan (2026–2029). He highlighted prior engagements with Area Councils across the district and outlined key challenges identified.

He said the Medium-Term Plan would focus on addressing issues raised during the Area Council consultations to promote sustainable development and improve service delivery.

The meeting also featured stakeholders from Development and Sustainable Initiatives (DSI), Denmark, who trained Assembly Members and Nananom on effective communication and leadership and how to strengthen the bond between them and the Assembly.
