The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constitution of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Richard Akwasi Asante, has expressed the need for the majority caucus in Parliament to leave Accra to visit their constituencies to educate them on the Electronic Transaction Levy popularly known as E-Levy.

According to him, Ghanaians will embrace the tax when they are sensitized to understand the brain behind it.

Speaking to a section of the media in Kumasi, Mr Asante disclosed that Ghana can not be developed if majority of the citizens are not paying taxes.

According to him, the burden of tax, is being suffered by only workers on the payroll of Controller and Accountant-General due to the payment of direct taxes.

Payment of taxes, he said, though unwelcomed by Ghanaians, could help government to get funds to undertake developmental projects in the country.

Mr Asante disclosed that most NDC MPs really know the importance of the E-Levy but fearful to support it due to the insults Asiedu Nketia and Sammy Gyamfi, General Secretary and National Communication Officer, respectively will tag on their integrity.

The Vice Chairman described it as false the claim by the NDC that government will reduce the amount in their wallets without making any transaction.

Mr Asante therefore asked the NPP MPs to leave their ‘comfort zone’ in Accra to educate people in their respective constituencies to help them understand the importance of the tax.
