The Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Suame Constituency has accused the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suame, Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah, of nepotism and sidelining loyal party members in the distribution of opportunities and government benefits.
At a press conference held in the constituency, the Suame Constituency Women Organiser, Asmawu Bello, popularly known as “Empress,” alleged that since assuming office, the MCE has consistently favoured friends, relatives, and individuals outside the party while neglecting hardworking grassroots members who contributed to the NDC’s electoral victory.
According to her, constituency executives and members of the Women’s Wing have been denied access to scholarships, contracts, and other opportunities expected to benefit committed party supporters.
“We have worked hard to bring our party to power, but our MCE has treated our party members poorly, especially the constituency executives and the Women’s Wing,” she stated.
Madam Bello further alleged that scholarship opportunities meant for party members’ children were withheld, while contracts for road and borehole projects were allegedly awarded to persons affiliated with the opposition party instead of dedicated NDC members.
She warned that the situation is creating frustration and apathy within the constituency, particularly among branch executives and grassroots activists who feel abandoned after contributing immensely to the party’s campaign efforts.
“There is growing apathy within the NDC. Some branch executives have stopped attending party meetings due to a lack of roles since the government took office. We feel abandoned as the Women’s Wing because we have no one to support us,” she added.
Several branch women organisers present at the press conference echoed similar concerns, describing the current situation as discouraging and demoralising to grassroots members who worked tirelessly during the election campaign.
The group has therefore appealed to the regional and national leadership of the NDC to intervene and investigate the allegations to ensure fairness and inclusiveness in appointments, contract awards, and the allocation of opportunities within the constituency.
They cautioned that failure to address the concerns could negatively affect party unity and potentially undermine the NDC’s electoral fortunes in the 2028 general elections.
Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a response from the Suame MCE, Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah, proved unsuccessful, as he declined to comment on the allegations.
