Mankranso, the capital of the Ahafo Ano South West District in the Ashanti Region, is set to witness a major economic transformation as government moves to construct a state-of-the-art 24-Hour Economy Model Market aimed at boosting commerce, job creation and local development.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod for the commencement of the ambitious project on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the designated 24-Hour Economy land site in Mankranso.

The ceremony will be attended by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, traditional authorities, assembly members, traders and residents from across the district.
The ultra-modern market facility, described as “Model 1,” will be constructed on a 6.5-acre land and fully funded through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
The project forms part of government’s broader 24-Hour Economy policy designed to encourage continuous economic activities, create sustainable employment opportunities and increase productivity.

According to details released by the Assembly, the market has been carefully designed to support round-the-clock commercial operations while providing modern infrastructure for traders and businesses.
The facility will include lockable shops, trading sheds and stalls, a supermarket, restaurant, cold stores, meat shop and livestock bay to support agro-businesses and food distribution within the district.
In addition to its commercial facilities, the market will also provide essential social services including a clinic, pharmacy, daycare centre, women’s bank and guestroom to improve convenience and accessibility for traders and patrons.
Security and sanitation have also been prioritized under the project, with plans for a police post, fire post, warehouse and waste yard. The market will further feature spacious parking areas, landscaped surroundings, offices, food courts, showers and modern washroom facilities to ensure a hygienic and dignified trading environment.
District authorities say the project is expected to modernize trading activities, reduce congestion and position Mankranso as a strategic commercial destination within the Ashanti Region.
Officials believe the initiative will particularly benefit women, youth and small-scale entrepreneurs by creating new opportunities for business growth and employment.
“This is more than just a market. It is a complete economic hub that will stimulate local development, improve livelihoods and strengthen the district’s economic potential,” the Assembly stated.
The sod-cutting ceremony will officially mark the beginning of construction works, with further details on contractors and timelines expected to be announced during the event.
