The Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, has commissioned the new offices of the Center for West African Studies on Digital Public Governance at the Greenhill campus of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), describing the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s public sector through innovation and technology.

The commissioning formed part of activities marking GIMPA’s 65th Anniversary celebrations, where Hon. Debrah served as the Special Guest of Honour.

His presence at the event highlighted government’s commitment to building a future-ready public service driven by knowledge, digital transformation, and strong institutions capable of sustaining national development.

Speaking at the ceremony, stakeholders noted that the establishment of the Centre represents more than the opening of a new facility, describing it as a strategic investment in the modernization of governance and public administration in Ghana and the West African sub-region.

The Center for West African Studies on Digital Public Governance was established through a strategic partnership between GIMPA and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). The collaboration seeks to equip public administrators and civil servants with the technological expertise and digital skills required to improve governance systems, enhance transparency, and promote efficient service delivery.

Ahead of the commissioning, GIMPA Rector, Prof. Samuel Kwaku Bonsu, and Director of UESTC’s Center for West African Studies, Prof. Zhao Shurong, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the partnership between the two institutions.

The agreement is expected to facilitate academic exchange, research collaboration, and professional training programs focused on digital governance and public sector innovation.
Officials at the event emphasized that the Centre would serve as a hub for developing modern governance solutions and preparing a new generation of public sector leaders capable of navigating the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen Ghana’s position as a regional leader in public administration and digital governance education.

The commissioning ceremony attracted government officials, academics, students, and development partners who praised GIMPA for its continued contribution to leadership development and institutional excellence over the past six decades.
