The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to assess the effectiveness of emergency coordination measures introduced to manage patient overflow and address temporary bed-space challenges at the facility.
The visit formed part of efforts by the regional administration to monitor healthcare delivery and ensure that interventions put in place to ease pressure on the country’s second-largest referral hospital are achieving the desired results.
Speaking after touring various wards and interacting with healthcare personnel and patients, Dr Amoakohene expressed satisfaction with the smooth operation of the emergency measures.
According to him, the interventions have helped maintain quality healthcare delivery despite the increasing demand for services at the hospital.
He disclosed that the government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, in collaboration with the Minister of Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, was pursuing long-term solutions to address healthcare infrastructure challenges in the Ashanti Region.
Dr Amoakohene said contractors working on the Sewua Regional Hospital, the Trede Hospital and the Oforikrom Municipal Hospital had been engaged to expedite ongoing construction works and equipment installation to facilitate the urgent commissioning and opening of the facilities for public use.
He explained that the completion and operationalisation of the hospitals would significantly reduce pressure on KATH and improve access to healthcare services across the region.
The Regional Minister further indicated that work was progressing steadily on the KNUST Medical Centre and the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (CATHLAB) project at KATH, both of which are expected to strengthen specialised healthcare delivery.
He assured residents that updates on other healthcare projects and installations in the region would be communicated in due course.
Dr Amoakohene thanked the public for their patience and understanding while efforts were being made to improve healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.
He also commended the management and staff of KATH, the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate and personnel of other health facilities in the region for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to quality healthcare services.
The government’s renewed focus on completing key health infrastructure projects is expected to enhance healthcare accessibility and reduce congestion at major referral facilities across the Ashanti Region.
