The Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Mr Emmanuel Reagan Fynn, has called on national service personnel to actively build professional networks and cultivate strong workplace ethics to enhance their chances of securing employment after their mandatory service year.
According to him, while academic qualifications remain important, professional connections, discipline and hard work are increasingly becoming critical factors in accessing opportunities in Ghana’s competitive job market.
Mr Fynn made the remarks during the Ashanti Regional Delegates’ Conference of the NSA held in Kumasi on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
He explained that national service serves as the first practical exposure to the world of work for many graduates and therefore provides an invaluable platform for developing the attitudes and relationships necessary for long-term career success.
“National service is not only about fulfilling a national obligation; it is an opportunity to demonstrate competence, build professional relationships and position oneself for future employment opportunities,” he stated.
Discipline and hard work
Mr Fynn stressed that employers continue to place high value on discipline, punctuality, commitment and teamwork, urging personnel to take their assignments seriously and uphold the highest standards of professionalism throughout their service period.
He encouraged service personnel to view every workplace as a learning environment where they can acquire practical skills, gain industry experience and establish networks that may open doors to future employment.
The Regional Director further advised personnel to remain proactive, innovative and adaptable in the face of evolving workplace demands.
Entrepreneurship encouraged
Also addressing the conference, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Ofori Agyemang Boadi, challenged national service personnel to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career path instead of relying solely on the limited formal employment opportunities available in the country.
He observed that the increasing number of graduates entering the labour market each year requires young people to think creatively and develop solutions that can generate employment for themselves and others.
Hon Boadi urged graduates from different academic backgrounds to collaborate and combine their expertise to establish businesses capable of addressing societal and industrial needs.
He cited examples of graduates in fields such as Civil Engineering, Marketing and Business Administration joining forces to establish consulting firms and other enterprises.
“Every successful business starts small. The beginning may be difficult, but with determination, innovation and consistency, these ventures can grow into thriving enterprises that create jobs and wealth,” he said.
Delegates’ conference
The conference brought together national service personnel, staff of the Authority, institutional partners and key stakeholders from across the Ashanti Region.
Apart from discussions on the Authority’s activities and future direction, the gathering also facilitated the election of new executive officers to steer the affairs of the regional delegates.
The event further provided an opportunity to recognise individuals and institutions whose support has contributed significantly to the effective administration of the National Service Authority in the region.

Mr Fynn commended the award recipients for their commitment and dedication, noting that their support had played a vital role in helping the Authority overcome operational and administrative challenges.

He described the awardees as dependable partners whose contributions had strengthened the delivery of the NSA’s mandate and enhanced service administration within the region.
Among the distinguished personalities honoured at the ceremony were the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Ofori Agyemang Boadi; the Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo, Hon Adelaide Ntim; the Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Hon Amoh Kamel; the Municipal Chief Executive for Juaben, Hon Eunice Ohenewaa Ansu; as well as the management of Twelling Company.

The awards recognised their outstanding support, commitment and contributions towards the growth and operational success of the National Service Authority in the Ashanti Region.
The conference ended with renewed calls for stronger collaboration between the Authority, employers and service personnel to promote youth employment, entrepreneurship and national development.
