The Amansie Central District Assembly has commissioned and handed over a newly refurbished building to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to strengthen fire prevention and emergency response services in the district.
The renovated facility, which has been equipped with a fire hydrant and a fire bay, is expected to serve as a critical operational base for fire personnel deployed to the district.
The commissioning marks a significant step towards improving public safety and emergency preparedness within the area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng Agyemang, popularly known as Pedro, disclosed that the Assembly was actively engaging relevant authorities to secure a fire tender recently procured by the government for the station.
According to him, acquiring the fire tender would enable the facility to attain full fire station status and significantly enhance the district’s capacity to respond promptly to fire outbreaks and other emergencies.
He explained that the absence of a fully equipped fire station in the district has for years posed challenges to effective firefighting operations.
“Whenever a fire outbreak occurs, personnel have to rely on support from the Obuasi Fire Station, which often results in delays. These delays sometimes lead to extensive destruction of property and livelihoods. It is therefore important that Amansie Central has its own fully functional fire station with the necessary equipment to serve our people,” he stated.
Hon. Obeng Agyemang noted that the commissioning of the refurbished facility demonstrates the Assembly’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while improving public service delivery in the district.
He commended the Assembly, traditional authorities and other stakeholders whose contributions made the project possible, stressing that collective efforts were crucial to the development of the district.
The DCE also appealed to residents to adopt responsible fire safety practices, particularly during the dry season, to reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks.
He urged households, businesses and institutions to ensure proper handling of electrical installations, gas cylinders and other potential fire hazards, while encouraging the public to promptly report emergencies to fire officers.
The posting of fire personnel to the district, coupled with the refurbished facility, is expected to improve emergency response times and provide greater protection for communities across Amansie Central.
Residents and local leaders have welcomed the development, describing it as a major boost to safety and disaster management efforts in the district. The Assembly remains optimistic that the anticipated acquisition of a fire tender will further strengthen the operational capacity of the station and improve fire-fighting services for the benefit of all residents.
