The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the widespread power outages caused by Sunday’s heavy rainfall and is working with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to ensure power is restored as quickly as possible.
The Commission explained that the severe flooding of the Mallam and Achimota Primary Substations compelled engineers to shut down the facilities as a safety measure to prevent accidents and protect lives. The shutdown has resulted in power supply interruptions across several parts of the Greater Accra Region.
In a statement issued yesterday, PURC said independent technical teams had been deployed to assess the extent of the damage while maintaining constant engagement with GRIDCo and ECG to expedite restoration efforts.
The Commission acknowledged the inconvenience caused to households and businesses by the unannounced outages and apologised to consumers for the disruption.
It assured the public that it would continue to monitor developments and provide regular updates while ensuring the utility providers restore electricity supply in the shortest possible time.
PURC also appealed to consumers to report any faults or power-related challenges that may not have come to its attention through its customer service lines and WhatsApp platforms.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers’ interests while ensuring the delivery of safe, stable and reliable electricity services across the country.
