Police Arrest Alleged Gang Leader Over Obuasi Murder

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man believed to be the leader of a criminal gang allegedly responsible for the murder of Abdul Jabal Suleman at Abompe New Site in Obuasi.
The suspect, Seidu Masawudu, popularly known as Marshall, was apprehended at Soe in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region on Saturday, July 11, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation.
Briefing journalists, the Deputy Ashanti South Regional Police Commander in charge of Operations, ACP Cephas Arthur, disclosed that Marshall had been on the police wanted list in connection with the fatal attack, which occurred in the early hours of July 9, 2026.
According to the police, the victim was attacked at about 2:20 a.m. by armed men wielding guns and cutlasses at Abompe New Site. He was rushed to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A statement signed by the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, indicated that the suspect admitted his involvement in the killing during interrogation.
Police said Marshall also identified eight alleged accomplices believed to have participated in the attack. They are Happy Bowman, also known as O’Boy, Mallam Karim, Malik, Balanga, Basit, Nazir, Nuhu, and Jedus, alias Baron.
The police have since launched a manhunt to arrest the remaining suspects to assist with investigations.
Preliminary investigations suggest the murder was linked to a violent gang rivalry in the area.
Meanwhile, police have also picked up Marshall’s 22-year-old girlfriend at Tweapease to assist with ongoing investigations.
Marshall is expected to be arraigned before court after the completion of police procedures

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has further cautioned the public against circulating a viral video showing an assault, stressing that the footage is unrelated to the Obuasi murder case and should not be associated with ongoing investigations.
