The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated relief items worth US$300,000 to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to support victims affected by recent floods across Ghana.
The donation, presented in Accra, forms part of the Church’s humanitarian assistance programme aimed at providing urgent relief to communities devastated by flooding.
The items included food supplies, sanitary products, toiletries, mattresses, and other essential household items expected to ease the hardship faced by affected families.
Officials of NADMO received the items on behalf of the government and expressed appreciation to the Church for the timely intervention. They noted that the donation would significantly complement ongoing efforts to provide relief to thousands of people displaced by the floods.
According to NADMO, the relief items will be distributed to the worst-hit communities to help victims recover from the impact of the disaster.
Representatives of the Church reaffirmed their commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during emergencies, stressing that the donation reflects the Church’s humanitarian mission of caring for those in distress regardless of religious affiliation.
The presentation comes at a time when several parts of the country, particularly the Greater Accra Region, have experienced severe flooding following heavy rains, leaving many families displaced and causing extensive damage to homes and property.
NADMO has appealed to individuals, corporate organisations and development partners to continue supporting relief efforts as the organisation works to assist affected communities and help restore normalcy.
