The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, has disclosed that the Assembly used economic vulnerability not political affiliation as the key criterion in selecting beneficiaries for this year’s Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Fund.

Speaking during the 2026 PWD Fund disbursement ceremony at the District Assembly Hall, the DCE stressed that the support was targeted at the most vulnerable persons in the district, particularly those who lack family support and struggle to meet their daily needs.
He explained that beneficiaries were identified through a transparent process led by the Department of Social Welfare to ensure fairness and equity.
“We considered the most vulnerable in economic terms. Those who do not have parents, those without spouses, and those who find it difficult to cater for themselves or pay school fees were given priority. The selection was not based on politics but on verified information provided by the Social Welfare Department,” he stated.
Hon. Issahak advised beneficiaries to make good use of the items provided and cautioned them against selling the equipment, stressing that the government’s objective is to empower them to become economically self-reliant.
A total of 46 persons with disabilities benefited from this year’s disbursement. The beneficiaries received various livelihood support items, including fufu processing machines, industrial sewing machines, popcorn machines, mixers, blenders, refrigerators, 10 bags of sachet water, as well as cash assistance to enable them establish or expand small businesses.
The DCE assured those who were not selected this year that the government is working to release another tranche of the PWD Fund, urging them to remain patient as more beneficiaries would be supported in due course.
The District Director of Social Welfare, Mr. Carlton Daniel Mawulorm, said the programme forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully integrated into society and given equal opportunities to improve their lives.
According to him, the support is intended to empower PWDs economically while promoting education, independence and social inclusion.
“Our goal is to make persons with disabilities realise that they are important members of society and capable of achieving their aspirations when given the needed support,” he said.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, the District Chief Executive and the Department of Social Welfare for the assistance, describing the intervention as timely.
They said the equipment and financial support would enable them to improve their livelihoods, generate income and better provide for themselves and their families.
