The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has engaged the Board Chairman of the State Transport Company (STC), Mr Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, on measures to deploy additional buses to support intra-city transportation in the region.
The engagement forms part of efforts by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to improve urban mobility, reduce commuting difficulties and provide residents with a more reliable public transport system, especially during peak hours.
Dr Amoakohene stressed that an efficient transport network remains a critical component of regional development, as thousands of residents depend on public transport daily to access jobs, businesses, educational institutions and social services.
He indicated that strengthening public transportation would help reduce congestion on major roads, improve productivity and contribute to the overall economic growth of the Ashanti Region.
The Regional Minister expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Transport for the provision of 19 buses to strengthen the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) fleet in the Ashanti Region, describing the intervention as a significant boost towards addressing transport challenges.
He noted that additional support from STC would further complement government’s efforts by increasing transport capacity and ensuring commuters enjoy safer, more convenient and efficient travel experiences.
Mr Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi assured of STC’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving public transportation and enhancing mobility across the region.
Dr Amoakohene said the collaboration between the Regional Coordinating Council, STC and other transport stakeholders demonstrates government’s commitment to building a modern transport system that responds to the needs of a growing urban population.
He added that the interventions form part of the broader Reset Agenda aimed at improving public services, strengthening infrastructure and creating better opportunities for citizens.
The Ashanti Region, being one of Ghana’s busiest economic hubs, continues to require expanded transport solutions to meet the increasing demands of commuters, and the latest engagement is expected to contribute significantly towards achieving that objective.
