The Chief Executive Officer of PIWAK Natural Health, producers of the popular 3P Garlic Mixture, Dr Prince Nelson Mortoti, has called on Ghanaians to make raw garlic an essential part of their daily diet, describing it as one of nature’s most powerful foods for promoting good health and preventing lifestyle-related illnesses.
According to him, the growing prevalence of hypertension, high cholesterol, weakened immunity and other non-communicable diseases should serve as a wake-up call for the public to embrace healthier eating habits, with raw garlic playing a significant role in maintaining overall wellness.
Speaking on the numerous health benefits of garlic, Dr Mortoti explained that fresh garlic contains allicin, a naturally occurring sulphur compound that is released when the garlic is crushed or chopped. He noted that allicin possesses antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antioxidant properties that help the body defend itself against harmful microorganisms and oxidative stress.
He said regular consumption of raw garlic may contribute to healthy blood pressure, improved blood circulation and better cholesterol management, all of which are important for maintaining a healthy heart.
Dr Mortoti further indicated that garlic strengthens the immune system, enabling the body to respond more effectively to infections and common illnesses. He added that its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties help protect body tissues from damage while promoting healthy ageing.
He also pointed out that garlic supports healthy digestion by promoting a balanced gut environment and may contribute to better metabolic health when consumed as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.
According to him, many people overlook the nutritional value of natural foods in favour of processed diets, a situation he believes is contributing to the increasing burden of lifestyle diseases across the country.
He warned that consistently neglecting nutrient-rich foods such as garlic may deprive the body of beneficial compounds that support normal body functions. While not consuming garlic alone does not directly cause disease, he explained that poor dietary habits in general can contribute to weakened immunity, poor cardiovascular health and a greater risk of chronic health conditions.
He therefore encouraged the public to adopt healthier lifestyles by eating balanced meals rich in fruits, vegetables and natural foods, exercising regularly, drinking enough water and seeking routine medical check-ups.
Touching on PIWAK Natural Health’s flagship product, 3P Garlic Mixture, Dr Mortoti said the product is carefully prepared from quality garlic to provide consumers with a convenient means of incorporating garlic into their daily wellness routine.
He explained that the company remains committed to producing quality natural health products while promoting public education on preventive healthcare and healthy living.
Dr Mortoti emphasised that although garlic offers significant nutritional and wellness benefits, it should not be regarded as a cure for diseases or a replacement for medical treatment. He advised individuals with underlying medical conditions or those taking prescription medications to consult qualified healthcare professionals before making major dietary changes or using herbal products.
He concluded by urging Ghanaians to make conscious lifestyle choices that promote long-term health, stressing that prevention through proper nutrition remains one of the most effective ways of reducing the burden of disease and improving the quality of life.
