Residents of Abuontem in the Bosomtwe Constituency are seething with anger over their chief’s blatant disregard for Asantehene’s directives.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had issued a directive halting all construction work in the area until surveyors completed their work, but Chief Nana Akomea Sakyi Tutu II allegedly collected money from private developers and gave them the green light to continue building.
The aggrieved residents claim that the chief’s actions are not only disrespectful to the Asantehene but also undermine democratic governance. They allege that the chief has extorted money ranging from GHC 1,500 to GHC 20,000 and above from landowners and residents.
“We have evidence, including videos, receipts, and audio recordings, to prove the chief’s wrongdoing,” said one of the residents. “We urge Asantehene to intervene immediately and rectify the situation.”
The residents warn that if the chief continues to disobey the Asantehene’s directives, it may trigger chaos in the area. They vow to resist any attempts by the chief to continue disregarding the Asantehene’s orders.
This incident is not the first time a chief has been accused of disregarding the Asantehene’s directives. Recently, the Kotwi chief was destooled for challenging Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s directives and violating the rules of the Ashanti kingdom ¹ ².
The Abuontem residents’ appeal for intervention highlights the need for chiefs to respect traditional authority and adhere to directives from their overlords.
