The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tatale-Sanguli in the Northern Region, Hon. Mary Tagba, has appealed to teachers posted to the district to accept their postings and consider the area as a place of opportunity rather than a deprived community.
According to her, Tatale-Sanguli District has much to offer teachers and other professionals who are willing to work and contribute to the development of the area.
She said the district was a “small heaven” where residents, traditional authorities, children and other stakeholders were ready to welcome and support teachers posted there.
Hon. Tagba made the appeal when she joined the District Education Directorate to welcome pupils, particularly fresh entrants, to school as part of the “My First Day at School” programme.
The DCE, who has been described as a hardworking and hands-on administrator, also embarked on a tour of schools in the district to observe the commencement of the new academic year and interact with teachers and pupils.
Hon.Mary Tagba urged teachers not to be discouraged by the name of the district or preconceived notions about its level of development.
She explained that whenever some government officials and professionals heard the name Tatale-Sanguli, they immediately assumed that the district was one of the most deprived areas in the country.
That perception, she said, had contributed to some people being reluctant to accept postings to the district.
She stressed that the situation on the ground was different from what some people imagined, saying the district had a welcoming population and several opportunities for personal and professional growth.
“Tatale-Sanguli is a small heaven. Do not allow the name of the district to scare you. Whoever is posted here should accept the posting and come and experience the love and kindness of our people.”
She said chiefs, parents, children and other stakeholders in the district were prepared to receive teachers with open arms and work with them to improve education.
DCE Tours Schools
As part of activities to mark the “My First Day at School” programme, Hon. Tagba toured selected schools in the district to assess preparations for the new academic year and interact with pupils and teachers.
She expressed satisfaction with the number of pupils who reported to school on the first day, describing the level of enrolment as encouraging.
The DCE, together with the District Director of Education, Mr. Zakaria Masahudu, joined officials of the Education Directorate to welcome fresh pupils to school and encourage parents to ensure that their children attended classes regularly.
The exercise was also used to encourage newly enrolled pupils to develop a positive attitude towards school and education from the beginning of their academic journey.

For his part, the District Director of Education, Mr. Zakaria Masahudu, underscored the importance of the “My First Day at School” initiative.
He described the first day of school as a significant milestone in a child’s educational journey, saying it provided an opportunity to create a positive foundation for pupils as they began formal education.
Mr. Masahudu therefore called on teachers to demonstrate commitment to their work and give their best to the pupils entrusted to their care.
He stressed that the fundamental reason children were brought to school was to acquire knowledge and skills that would prepare them for the future.
He urged teachers to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and ensure that effective teaching and learning took place in schools across the district.
The Education Director further encouraged teachers to see their postings to Tatale-Sanguli as an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children rather than as a setback in their professional careers.
The joint engagement by the DCE and the Education Directorate forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the district administration and education authorities to improve educational outcomes in Tatale-Sanguli.
