Adidome SHS Emerges Winner of Volta Region Renewable Energy Challenge

Adidome Senior High School has been crowned the Volta regional champion of the 6th edition of the Senior High School Renewable Energy Challenge, securing a spot in the national zonal competition.

The competition, held at OLA Senior High School, was organized by the Energy Commission in partnership with the Ghana Education Service and Ghana TVET Service.

 

Ten Senior High Schools participated in the challenge, tasked with developing innovative renewable energy solutions to address real-world issues such as food preservation, healthcare delivery, and waste management. The competition’s theme, “Sustainable Energy for a Healthier Future,” aimed to harness youthful potential and nurture future leaders driving sustainable development through technology and research.

The Deputy Director for Renewable Energy Regulation at the Energy Commission, Mr. Frederick Appiah, highlighted the competition’s strategic importance, stating that it empowers students to think critically, innovate locally, and contribute to Ghana’s energy transition and development agenda. He reaffirmed the Energy Commission’s commitment to grooming the next generation of energy innovators.

The Volta Regional Director of Education, Mr. Francis Agbemadi, emphasized the need for a national framework to sustain the challenge’s impact. He advocated for incubation hubs, mentorship structures, and funding pipelines to transform students’ ideas into impactful innovations.

A member of the winning team, Master Ephraim Dortumor, attributed their victory to discipline, teamwork, and a deep passion for renewable energy innovation. “We are committed to making the Volta Region proud on the national stage,” he said.

Adidome SHS’s victory in the Volta Region Renewable Energy Challenge is a testament to the school’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. As they prepare to compete at the national level, the team is poised to showcase their skills and make a lasting impact on Ghana’s energy landscape.
