The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, has inspected ongoing reshaping works on the Anitemfi–Asukese road, aimed at improving accessibility and easing the movement of residents and farm produce within the area.
The intervention, being undertaken by the Department of Feeder Roads, follows persistent concerns over the deteriorating condition of the road, which has made transportation difficult, particularly during the rainy season.
The road serves as an important link for residents and farmers in communities along the corridor, many of whom depend on it to transport agricultural produce to nearby market centres.
During the inspection, Mr Sedik expressed satisfaction with the progress of the reshaping exercise and reaffirmed the assembly’s commitment to improving road connectivity and accessibility across the district.
He said although the ongoing works would provide immediate relief to residents, efforts were also being made to secure a more permanent solution to the challenges confronting the road.
Immediate relief
The DCE explained that the reshaping exercise was intended to address some of the most pressing difficulties faced by road users, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
He said improved access would make it easier for farmers to convey their produce to market centres, reduce the difficulties associated with travelling and enhance the general socio-economic activities of communities along the route.
Mr Sedik further disclosed that arrangements were being made to provide additional materials, including chippings, to improve accessibility on some sections of the road, especially during the rainy season.
He expressed the hope that some roads within the district would subsequently be considered under the government’s Big Push road infrastructure programme for comprehensive reconstruction.
According to him, such an intervention would provide a lasting solution to the road challenges and help open up communities to increased economic opportunities.
Electricity challenge
Aside from the road intervention, the DCE disclosed that efforts were also underway to address electricity challenges in the area.
He said he had engaged the Ministry of Energy on the matter and that discussions were continuing with the relevant authorities responsible for the project.
Mr Sedik said the Assembly would continue to engage stakeholders to ensure that the electricity needs of communities in the area received the necessary attention.
Community commendation
The Assembly Member for the Anitemfi Electoral Area, Hon. Justice Anaane, welcomed the reshaping exercise and commended the DCE for responding to concerns raised by residents.
He said the improvement of the road would have a significant impact on the transportation of farm produce and make travelling easier and safer for residents.
Mr Anaane, however, appealed for further development interventions in the area, particularly the extension of electricity to communities that were yet to benefit from reliable power supply.
The Anitemfi Dikuro, Nana Owoahene Acheampong, also expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing the poor condition of the road as a major challenge for residents, particularly during the rainy season.
He said the road had affected movement within the area and expressed the hope that the current reshaping would serve as a step towards the eventual reconstruction of the road.
Boost for local economy
The ongoing intervention is expected to improve accessibility along the Anitemfi–Asukese corridor and facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from farming communities to market centres.
Improved road access is also expected to reduce transportation difficulties, enhance the movement of people and goods and support economic activities within the communities.
While the reshaping exercise is expected to provide immediate relief, stakeholders in the area are hopeful that a permanent reconstruction of the road will eventually be secured to ensure year-round accessibility.
The DCE assured residents that the Assembly would continue to pursue interventions aimed at improving road infrastructure and addressing other critical development challenges confronting communities in the Ahafo Ano South West District.
