The Amansie Central District Assembly has commissioned and officially handed over the newly refurbished Jacobu Health Centre to residents of Jacobu and surrounding communities in a major step towards improving access to quality healthcare in the district.
The facility, which was converted from the town’s abandoned old court building into a fully equipped health centre, is expected to ease the burden on residents who previously had to travel to Bekwai and other neighbouring towns to access essential healthcare services.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, brought together traditional authorities, government officials, health professionals, assembly members and community stakeholders who hailed the project as a significant milestone in the district’s development agenda.
Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng Agyemang, described the project as a practical demonstration of the government’s commitment to expanding access to primary healthcare across the country.
According to him, the transformation of the abandoned court building into a modern health facility reflects the government’s determination to ensure that quality healthcare is available to every Ghanaian regardless of where they live.
“This is a historic rebirth. We have transformed a former symbol of justice into a sanctuary for healing. The Jacobu Health Centre stands as a living testimony to the national agenda of bringing healthcare closer to the people and ensuring that health is not a privilege but a right,” he stated.
The DCE explained that the project aligns with the government’s Free Primary Healthcare agenda, which seeks to strengthen healthcare delivery by making essential medical services more accessible at the community level.
He further disclosed that the health centre has been complemented with a fully operational ambulance service to improve emergency healthcare delivery and ensure the timely transportation of patients requiring specialised medical attention.
Hon. Obeng Agyemang expressed confidence that the facility would significantly improve the health and wellbeing of residents while reducing unnecessary referrals to distant health institutions.
The District Director of Health Services, Dr. Oppong Aprem Twum, described the commissioning of the facility as a major relief for residents of Jacobu and neighbouring communities.
He noted that for many years, residents, particularly pregnant women, nursing mothers and emergency patients, endured long and often risky journeys to Bekwai and other towns before receiving medical attention.
According to him, the establishment of the health centre will eliminate many of those challenges and improve health outcomes within the district.
Dr. Twum revealed that seventeen health professionals have already been posted to the facility to ensure efficient delivery of healthcare services.
He added that the availability of skilled health personnel, coupled with the ambulance service, would greatly enhance emergency response and maternal healthcare in the area.
The Chief of Jacobu, Nana Adu Darko III, expressed profound appreciation to the Government, the District Chief Executive and the Amansie Central District Assembly for fulfilling a long-standing dream of the people.
He described the project as a life-changing intervention that would benefit generations of residents and pledged the full support of the traditional leadership towards the proper management and maintenance of the facility.
“As traditional leaders, we will work closely with the management to ensure the sustainability of this health facility for the benefit of our people,” he assured.
The newly commissioned Jacobu Health Centre comprises male and female wards, antenatal care (ANC) unit, labour ward, consulting rooms, laboratory, records office, accounts office and an ambulance service centre.
The modern facility is expected to improve healthcare accessibility, strengthen maternal and child health services, and enhance emergency medical response within Jacobu and adjoining communities.
Among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony were representatives of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, assembly members, officials from the Ghana Health Service and other key stakeholders.
