The second season of the Rebecca Foundation sponsored “Learning to Read Reading to Learn” starts airing tomorrow 28th March, 2020 at 12noon on GTV
The programme, an initiative of The Rebecca Foundation, is a weekly interactive reading television programme, with school children and an adult reader.
Each week, pupils from various basic schools sit together to read a story book and learn new words and lessons from the stories read.
The programme also aims at exposing children to the works of Ghanaian writers and at the same time provide the platform for the writers to exhibit their works.
The second season of Learning to Read Reading to Learn will witness selected pupils from basic schools in the Central, Ashanti,Bono and Bono East Regions.
The concept of Learning to Read Reading to Learn was borne out of the First lady’s concern at the inability of many of our primary school pupils to read English or any other Ghanaian language.
The initiative is thus aimed at encouraging children to make reading a habit and to help them develop their reading skills.
The second season of Learning to Read Reading to Learn starts airing at a time when schools have been closed down because of the COVID -19 pandemic sweeping the whole world.
It is hoped that parents and guardians will direct and encourage their wards to follow the programme and take active part in order to derive its maximum benefit.
Learning to Read Reading to Learn is hosted by Adjetey Annan (Pusher) and Dakoa Newman and is partnered by GTV,Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Library Authority,Ghana Association of Publishers, the Ghanaian writers who donated their books and the Ghana Book Development Council.
