Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has inspected the ongoing Kumasi Central Market Project, which is part of the Kejetia redevelopment initiative started under the Mahama administration. Accompanied by the Regional Security Council, Management Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, and the Regional Coordinating Council, Dr. Amoakohene assessed the progress of both phases of the project, including the area damaged by a fire outbreak a few years ago.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the work done on the second phase but urged contractors to speed up completion to provide traders with a conducive and decent place to do business. He also assured traders affected by the fire that repairs would commence within two weeks, following a meeting with market leaders, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, and the Regional Coordinating Council.
Dr. Amoakohene addressed concerns about the market’s unsanitary conditions, particularly the toilet facilities, and the congested areas due to delays in the project’s second phase. He instructed traders occupying firefighting installation points to vacate the area and directed drivers to stop using the market’s front view as a lorry terminal to ensure easy access in case of emergencies.
The Kumasi Central Market Project is a significant development initiative aimed at improving the city’s market infrastructure. The project’s completion is expected to enhance the trading experience and provide a more conducive environment for traders and customers alike.
