Madam Gloria Huze, the Ashanti Regional School Feeding Coordinator, has warned caterers who serve malnutritional food to learners that they will be sacked.
During a tour of schools in the Kumasi Metro and Asokwa Municipality, Madam Gloria Huze expressed dissatisfaction with the substandard food served to learners in some schools within the Asokwa Municipality.
Despite the increase in feeding fees from GHC 1.50 to GHC 2.00 per learner under President Mahama government,Madam Gloria Huze noted that some caterers still fail to provide nutritious meals.
She emphasized that such attitudes will not be tolerated and vowed to terminate contracts of caterers who fail to meet expectations.
Madam Gloria Huze specifically cautioned truant caterers who don’t cook daily, stating that failure to cook for two weeks will result in contract termination.
Her stance aims to ensure that learners receive quality meals, promoting their health and well-being.
However, Madam Gloria Huze praised caterers at the State Experimental School in Nhyiaeso Sub-Metro for serving delicious and nutritious meals.
She encouraged them to continue providing quality food, contributing to the success of the school feeding program.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) provides one hot, nutritious meal per day for pupils in deprived public basic schools.
Despite its success, the program faces challenges, including inadequate feeding grants, delayed fund releases, and insufficient skills among caterers. To address these issues, the GSFP has trained over 3,227 caterers and head cooks in the Ashanti Region, focusing on food preparation and nutrition .
Madam Gloria Huze’s efforts aim to improve the quality of meals served to learners, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need to thrive.
By cracking down on subpar caterers and promoting excellence, she is committed to making the school feeding program a success in the Ashanti Region .
