The 1986-year group of Bekwai Seventh Day Senior High School have handed over a multipurpose sports court and equipment to the school authorities at a special ceremony in Bekwai on Tuesday.
The project, sponsored by the 1986 Year Group, is estimated to cost GHS 185,000 and is expected to give students and staff opportunities to stay active, healthy, and physically fit.
It is designed to accommodate basketball, netball, volleyball, and lawn tennis.
In addition to the sports court, the group also donated tennis rackets, volleyball equipment, and netball equipment to support the effective use of the facility.
The handing over of the project was part of the Homecoming and 40th Anniversary celebrations of the 1986 Year Group of the Bekwai Adventist Old Students Association (BAOSA 86).
Speaking during a presentation ceremony at Bekwai, the President of the 1986 Year Group, Dr Kwabena Arko, indicated that sports and physical activities were part of education and, as old students, they thought it was important for the students of the school to have these sports facilities.
He noted that the project represented a meaningful contribution by BAOSA 86 toward promoting sports, wellness, and the overall development of students at the school, which they did not have that privilege.
The President urged the school authorities and the students to make full use of the multipurpose sports court and keep it well maintained since maintenance was very important.
Dr Kwabena Arko appealed to the school to ensure that the facility was properly maintained and preserved for the benefit of both current and future generations.
The Headmaster of SDASS, Mr Peter Boateng, on behalf of the School Administration, Board of Governors, Staff, Student body and BAOSA Global expressed his appreciation to the BAOSA 1986-year group (Piesienom) for the construction and donation of the multipurpose sports court to the school.
He noted that they were happy and grateful for what they have done, since the court was going to uplift sports in the school and help them excel in sports.
The Headmaster assured the group that the school would take good care of the court by maintaining it periodically, so that when the old students visit the school again, they will find it in good shape.
Present at the ceremony were two Executives of BAOSA Global, members of the 1986 year group both at home and abroad, and some representatives of different year groups.
