Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana has congratulated Hon. Ibrahim Mutala Mohammed, the new Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, on his successful vetting. The organization praised the Minister’s commitment to sustainable development and his willingness to engage stakeholders on environmental issues.

Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana emphasized the need for a holistic approach to address sanitation challenges, citing weak laws, lack of education, and improper waste management as key barriers. To strengthen sanitation governance, the organization proposed:

– *Strengthening the sanitation legal framework*: introducing stiffer penalties for offenders and improving public education through awareness campaigns.
– *Enhancing waste management systems*: implementing effective waste collection and disposal methods.
– *Establishing a separate sanitation court*: expediting judgment on sanitation-related cases.

The organization also highlighted the importance of child involvement in sanitation advocacy, proposing three strategic measures:

– *Integrating sanitation education into the curriculum*: teaching children about sanitation, waste management, and environmental conservation.
– *Creating youth-led sanitation advocacy groups*: empowering children to drive their own sanitation projects and become ambassadors for change.
– *Promoting community engagement and initiatives: encouraging children to participate in community-based sanitation projects and clean-up initiatives.

Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana has already taken steps towards this initiative and looks forward to collaborating with the Minister to promote sustainable sanitation practices in Ghana.
