The Ashanti Regional Manager of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Jerry E. Aflabo, has cautioned the public against private garages that offer renewal and issuance of driver’s licenses and vehicle licenses. According to him, these services are not within the mandate of private garages.
Authenticity of Driving Licenses.
Mr. Aflabo emphasized the importance of authenticating driving licenses and urged the public to acquire genuine licenses and necessary documentation from the DVLA. He stated that private garages are only supposed to inspect vehicle registrations and road worthiness certifications.
Sanctions for Illegal Practices.
The DVLA manager warned that there are sanctions for individuals and private garages that engage in such illegal practices. He urged private garage owners to be vigilant and prevent such activities from occurring under their watch.
Commitment to Excellence.
Mr. Aflabo gave this caution during a meeting with the media after a joint meeting with management. He expressed his commitment to building on the progress made by his predecessor and ensuring that licenses are readily available to the public. He also appealed to the public to ensure that their licenses reflect their services.
Importance of Stakeholder Collaboration.
The Regional Manager reminded stakeholders, including importers and car dealers, of the importance of collaborating with the DVLA for advice on vehicle registration. He emphasized that the Ghana Card remains the sole document for registration.
Vehicle Ownership Transfer.
Mr. Aflabo also urged vehicle owners to transfer ownership documents when selling their vehicles to ensure that the new owner’s details are officially recorded. He warned that failure to do so could result in the seller being held responsible if the vehicle is involved in any crime.
Public Education.
The DVLA manager assured the public that his office would conduct regular education campaigns to reduce the incidence of such issues and prevent the public from falling victim to scams. By working together, the DVLA aims to maintain the integrity of the licensing system and ensure public safety on the roads.
