GES Releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for Senior High Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic year for all Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) across the country.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of GES Headquarters in Accra and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Mr. Daniel Fenyi, the Service announced that the calendar covers both Single Track and Transitional Schools.

According to the release, Form One and Form Two students in Single Track schools will begin the first semester on September 18, 2026, and remain in school until January 29, 2027. They will then proceed on vacation from January 30 to March 29, 2027.

The second semester for Form One and Form Two students is scheduled to commence on March 30, 2027, and end on July 30, 2027, after which students will vacate on July 31, marking the end of the academic year.

For Form Three students, the first semester will run from September 18, 2026, to December 18, 2026, followed by vacation from December 19, 2026, to January 31, 2027. Their second semester will begin on February 1, 2027, and end on June 18, 2027, which also marks the completion of their academic year.

GES further announced key breaks and examination dates within the academic year. The Christmas break has been scheduled from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break will take place from March 25 to March 30, 2027. A mid-semester break for Form Two students is expected from June 17 to June 20, 2027.

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is expected to be conducted from April 6 to June 18, 2027.
Management of GES urged all stakeholders, including school heads, teachers, parents, guardians, and students, to take note of the approved dates and prepare adequately toward a smooth and successful academic year.
