Invest in Your Ward’s Education-Western Regional GNAT Chairman urges

Mr. Peter Obeng Nyamekye, the chairman of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) for Western and Western North Region, has on called on parents to place high priority on the education of their wards.

The chairman, who doubles as the headmaster of Sefwi Wiawso Senior High Technical School said education is the only legacy every good parents can boost of, adding that, it’s better than investing in properties which could result in family disputes.

He gave the advice when Kwamekrom Students and Alumini Association in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality launched a special initiative dubbed “Education and Apprenticeship Fund”, to support less endowed youth in the community to achieve their aspirations in life.

Mr. Obeng Nyamekye indicated that, the initiative is not meant to raise only professional in educational sector but also to support skills training such as Mechanics, Mansons, Electricians, Carpenters among others for job market and improve livelihood.

He said the era where the youth look-up to the government for everything should belong to the past, hence the decision to establish the fund.

An amount of GHS 30,000 was raised as a seed money during the launch.

He announced that, the community had already been blessed with Professor Robert Aidoo, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Agric and Economics, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Lawyer Emmanuel Aidoo, a Professional Lawyer and Sustainability Manager, Mensin Gold Limited Bibiani among other top professionals.

On his part, Professor Robert Aidoo encouraged the youth not to be deterred by where they hailed from, but rather, use some of them as role model in pursuing their careers in life

He was confident that with such interventions, the community was on course to achieve its vision to raise and boosting skills training in the community in known time.

Mr. Emmanuel Aidoo, a lawyer by profession and Sustainability Manager of Mensin Gold Limited Bibiani was thankful to the Association Members particularly, Professor Robert Aidoo and Mr. Peter Obeng Nyamekye for their immense contribution towards the development of Kwamekrom township.

He admonished the youth who are interested to work at the mining firms to pursue programmes that can offer them the requisite skills to get opportunity at the mines.

The chief of Kwamekrom, Nana Kwasi Nipa I, commended the Kwamekrom Students and Alumini Association Members for giving back to their community and appealed to others home and in abroad to support the initiative for a sustainable development of the community.
