A lawyer and a political analyst, Lawyer Yaw Frimpong Anokye has said that, Mr Julius Debrah is in the best position to be appointed as the running mate for John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He made this known in an interview on Okwahu fm in the Eastern Region as monitored by The Punch Newspaper.
Mr Julius Debrah ,according to him is a Kwahu and an Ashanti and hence appointing him as the running mate for Mahama will be in NDC’s favour when it comes to ethnicity. “Julius Debrah who had served as a former Chief of Staff is in a better position to serve and to be nurtured by the NDC should be a priority “ he said
To him , Choosing Jane Nana Opoku Agyeman,2020 running mate for John Dramani Mahama would be a mistake as the votes that can be garnered from the Central Region is insignificant to the party’s victory in 2024.
He further added that the NDC should also take into consideration the continuity of the party leadership when it comes to age.
He said this in reference to Jane Naana Opuku Agyemang who is above the age of 60 years and not a long serving member of the party
He further revealed that a big challenge the NPP will face if Bawumia is appointed as the flagbearer would be his identity as a Northerner and a Muslim .
In his opinion, it wouldn’t be difficult for the NDC which has John Dramani Mahama as the flagbearer to win the heart of the Ashantis.
In his estimation, the NPP which could have had an 80% advantage in the Ashanti region had reduced to about 60% with Bawumia as the flag bearer.
He finally added that it will be difficult for an Ashantis to vote for a Northerner or a Christian to vote for a Muslim.
