The Otumfuo Manwerehene, Baffour Osei Hyiaman Brantuo VI, has endorsed the candidature of Mr Paul Afoko in the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Executive elections.
According to the Manwerehene, Mr Afoko possesses the qualities required to provide leadership for the party at a critical point in its history.
The endorsement was made when Mr Afoko, an NPP National Chairmanship aspirant, paid a courtesy call on the Manwerehene at his palace as part of his engagements ahead of the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
During the meeting, the two discussed issues concerning the NPP, its organisational structures and the need for effective leadership to strengthen the party.
Baffour Osei Hyiaman Brantuo VI is reported to have expressed his support for Mr Afoko, describing him as a person capable of providing the leadership needed to move the party forward.
The development comes at a time when the NPP is preparing to elect new national executives who will be entrusted with the responsibility of steering the affairs of the party and positioning it for the future.
Afoko’s Campaign
Mr Afoko has, in his campaign engagements, been emphasising the need for unity, reconciliation and a stronger organisational structure within the NPP.
He has been touring various parts of the country to engage party delegates, traditional leaders and other stakeholders ahead of the national elections.
His message has largely centred on rebuilding trust among party members and strengthening the structures of the party from the grassroots to the national level.
The courtesy call on the Manwerehene formed part of such engagements as Mr Afoko continues to interact with stakeholders ahead of the elections.
Leadership
The endorsement by the Manwerehene is expected to add to the growing attention surrounding the contest for the National Chairmanship position, which is one of the key positions to be decided at the party’s national elections.
The National Chairman will play a central role in coordinating the party’s organisational activities and working with other national executives to manage the affairs of the party.
The election is therefore expected to attract considerable interest from delegates and party members as the NPP seeks to shape its leadership and organisational direction.
Call For Unity
The issue of unity has featured prominently in Mr Afoko’s campaign.
He has maintained that the party needs to close ranks, strengthen internal cohesion and create an environment where members can work together despite differences.
His campaign has also sought to project the National Chairmanship position as one that requires experience, commitment and the ability to bring various interests within the party together.
The endorsement from the Manwerehene, therefore, comes against the backdrop of these calls for unity and cohesion within the NPP.
The party’s national elections will ultimately be decided by the accredited delegates, who will exercise their mandate in accordance with the party’s electoral arrangements.
As preparations intensify, the various aspirants are expected to continue their engagements with delegates across the country as they make their respective cases for the positions they are contesting.
