The usual worrying scenes at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti region, was momentarily changed to spectacles of ecstasy on Monday, when Hon Kennedy Akompreko Ohene Agyapong, stormed the second largest hospital in the country.

Cheers and delightful smiles from workers, patients, attendees and passerbys, met the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) who donated 100 brand new and modern hospital beds and mattresses valued at Gh 365,000.00 to the hospital.

Patients and workers were seen peeping through the windows of the wards to catch a glimpse of the accomplished business man when word went round about his appearance at the premier hospital.

Had care not been taken by the entourage of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker and management of the hospital, the health facility would have been turned to a campaign grounds as people hustled to catch a close view of the man tipped to change the status quo of presidential primaries in the annals of the NPP.

Clad in a white apparel with a blue jeans trousers to match, the employer of over 7,000 workers in the country, exchanged healthy pleasantries with management, patients and workers alike before making his presentation.

Before the presentation, Hon Agyapong who will be contesting the upcoming presidential primaries of the NPP had donated an amount of 147,000.00 dollars to the department to defray the cost of a year planned preventive maintenance of the linac machine at the department.

The business mogul, said at the short but colourful ceremony that quality healthcare delivery across the country was dear to his heart, hence the gesture.

He pledged his continuous support to the health sector in the country to make it viable to deliver effectively on their mandate to the populace.

Receiving the items, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital Prof Octhere Addai Mensah, expressed gratitude to the media conglomerate owner for the kind gesture.

He noted that the donation will go a long way to solidify the department to discharge its duties to the benefit of the hospital.

The CEO who was baffled by the quantum of the two donations wished that people of high standard like Hon Agyapong came to the aid of the hospital to ameliorate its plight.

This is not the first time the outspoken but firm legislator had come to the aid of hospitals in the country.

It would be recalled that Hon Agyapong singlehandedly sponsored the construction of a cardiothoracic center at the 37th military hospital in Accra which is 80 percent complete.

The cheerful giver did not end his benevolence there but continued to dolled out 100,000.00 dollars to the hospital to sponsor the training of two doctors in India to man the center when complete.

All things being egual, the multi-faceted business magnate, will be among three key contenders in the impending NPP presidential primaries.
