The Management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a public notice informing all traders, particularly those operating in the streets, medians, and other unauthorized areas within the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi, to cease trading activities forthwith.
This decision comes as a reminder of the deadline of May 1, 2025, which was earlier issued for traders to voluntarily relocate their wares and trading structures from the streets.
The affected areas include Adum, Kejetia, Pampaso, Dr. Mensah, around Zoo, Dunkirk, Roman Hill, around Kejetia Market, Adehyeman, and Alarba. Traders operating in these areas are expected to remove all wooden and metal structures from their trading points and relocate to designated trading areas.
From May 5, 2025, trading in the streets and other unauthorized areas within the CBD will be strictly prohibited. The KMA has urged all traders to comply fully with these directives to avoid forced ejection. This move is aimed at restoring order and improving the business environment in the CBD.
Additionally, persons who park their vehicles in the CBD and trade in them are also advised to desist from such practices. The KMA is determined to ensure that the CBD is free from unauthorized trading activities, which can create congestion and disrupt the smooth flow of traffic.
The KMA has warned traders that failure to comply with these directives will result in forced ejection. The Assembly is committed to enforcing the regulations and ensuring that the CBD is maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
The KMA’s decision to prohibit street trading in the CBD is a step in the right direction towards improving the business environment and restoring order in the city. Traders are urged to comply with the directives and relocate to designated trading areas to avoid any disruptions to their businesses. The KMA’s efforts to enforce the regulations will ensure that the CBD remains a vibrant and thriving commercial hub.
