The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has led a team of officials from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on an inspection tour of flood-prone areas within the metropolis as part of efforts to prevent flooding during the rainy season.
The exercise, conducted on Tuesday, June 9, formed part of the Assembly’s proactive measures to identify and address drainage challenges that contribute to flooding in the city.
During the tour, the Mayor and his team visited key locations, including the Asafo Market area and the WAEC drainage corridor, where sections of drains requiring urgent desilting and maintenance were identified.
Hon. Ofori Boadi Agyemang directed relevant departments of the Assembly to take immediate action to clear choked drains and ensure the smooth flow of water through major drainage channels.
He stressed the need for swift and coordinated intervention to minimise the risk of flooding, protect lives and property, and maintain a clean urban environment.
The Mayor reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to improving sanitation and drainage infrastructure across the metropolis and urged residents to support the effort by avoiding the indiscriminate disposal of waste into drains.

The inspection forms part of ongoing initiatives by the KMA to enhance environmental management and strengthen the city’s resilience against flooding.
