The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, has appealed to the national leadership of the party to recognise and adequately reward cadres for their immense contribution to the growth and success of the party.

According to him, the sacrifices, commitment and loyalty demonstrated by cadres over the years have played a critical role in sustaining the NDC through both difficult and successful periods, making them an important constituency that deserves special attention.

He, therefore, urged the party’s National Chairman, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and the national executive leadership to consider treating cadres as a distinct constituency within the party structure to ensure that their welfare and interests are adequately addressed.

Mr Nana Kwasi made the appeal during the 2026 NDC Young Cadres Day celebration held in Kumasi on the theme: “Ensuring Transparent Governance: The Role of Cadres.”

Addressing participants, the Ashanti Regional Chairman noted that many cadres had devoted their youthful years and resources to defending and promoting the ideals of the NDC, yet they were often overlooked when opportunities and benefits were distributed at the grassroots level.

“The role played by cadres in building and sustaining the NDC cannot be underestimated. They have stood by the party through thick and thin and have contributed immensely to our electoral victories and organisational strength,” he stated.

He expressed concern that cadres were frequently neglected whenever appointments, opportunities and other benefits were being shared within party structures.

“Anytime something is being shared at the grassroots level, cadres are often left out. This is not encouraging considering the sacrifices many of them have made for the party over the years,” he said.

Mr Nana Kwasi appealed to the leadership to take deliberate steps to improve the welfare of cadres and ensure that they receive the recognition they deserve while they are still alive.

“We should not wait until some of these dedicated cadres pass away before we acknowledge their contributions. Let us appreciate and support them now,” he stressed.

The regional chairman further described cadres as the custodians of the NDC’s principles, values and traditions, adding that their experience and commitment remained vital to the continued growth of the party and the success of the government.

He urged young party members to emulate the discipline, dedication and spirit of sacrifice exhibited by older cadres and remain committed to promoting the policies and programmes of the government.

Touching on the theme of the celebration, Mr Nana Kwasi emphasised the need for cadres to play a leading role in promoting transparency, accountability and good governance.

He noted that as the NDC government works to fulfil its campaign promises and improve the living conditions of Ghanaians, cadres must serve as responsible ambassadors of the party by educating the public on government policies and helping to strengthen public confidence in state institutions.

He also encouraged party members to remain united and focused on the broader objective of national development, stressing that internal cohesion would be essential in supporting the government’s agenda.

The event brought together party executives, cadres, youth activists and supporters from across all the Regions to reflect on the contributions of cadres to Ghana’s democratic development and discuss ways of enhancing their role in governance and party organisation.
