An advocate of the LGBTQ+, Mr. Zubairu Mujeeb, a 33-year-old teacher of the Najaliyya Islamic School at Atebubu in the Bono East Region, is reported missing.

Until his sudden disappearance, Mujeeb is said to have encountered attacks by residents of the community for his advocacy for LGBTQ+ issues.

Muslim communities and Ghana laws frown on homosexuality as a taboo, hence the threat to his life.

Most of his close allies have also been subjected to hostilities by members of the public for their position to protect the rights of homosexuals.

On October 7, 2024, a local anti-homosexual group threatened his life, which he escaped death narrowly.

He fled the community and has since not been found.

Mujeeb is believed to have escaped the attempts on his life and living outside the country.

A report was lodged at the Prang Police Station by Haadi Zubairu on October 14, 2024, to the effect that Mujeeb’s whereabouts are not known.

The local police issued an extract indicating that all efforts to trace Mujeeb’s whereabouts have proved futile.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ibrahim Anyars Safianu of Aboabo in Kumasi and a friend of Mujeeb, has made a declaration in line with the Statutory Declaration Act 386 of 1971 pleading with authorities and powers that be to protect Mujeeb’s fundamental human rights wherever he finds himself. E N D
