Residents of Pensanom, a community in the Wassa Amenfi Central Constituency of the Western North Region, can now breathe a sigh of relief following the restoration of electricity after nearly two months of darkness.
The feat has been widely credited to the timely intervention of the Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, whose commitment to the welfare and development of her constituents continues to draw commendation.
Electricity supply to the community was disrupted about two months ago after a transformer serving the area became damaged during ongoing construction works on the Bawdie–Asankragwa road. The road project, while expected to bring long-term benefits to the constituency, had an unintended consequence on power infrastructure in Pensanom, plunging households, schools, and small businesses into prolonged darkness.
Confirming the situation, an engineer with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) stationed at Asankragwa, Mr. Eric Amoako Ackah, explained that the transformer fault was directly linked to the road construction activities. According to him, the damage rendered the transformer inoperable, making it impossible for ECG to maintain power supply to the community until extensive repairs were undertaken.
“The transformer was badly affected during the construction works on the Bawdie–Asankragwa road about two months ago. This led to the interruption of power supply to Pensanom,” Mr. Amoako Ackah stated. “With the necessary support and intervention, the issue has now been resolved, and electricity has been fully restored.”
The prolonged blackout had significant social and economic implications for residents. Students struggled to study at night, health and safety concerns increased, and local businesses that depended on electricity were forced to scale down operations, leading to loss of income for many households.
Addressing the issue, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe stepped in to facilitate the repair and restoration of the damaged transformer. Her intervention, according to community leaders, was swift and decisive, reflecting her responsiveness to the needs of the people she represents in Parliament.
The Chief of Pensanom, Nana Twumasi Ammkoa III, expressed profound gratitude to the MP, noting that the community had endured two months of hardship due to the power outage. Speaking on behalf of the traditional authorities and residents, he praised Hon. Gyan Cudjoe for what he described as practical and people-centered leadership.
“For the past two months, we have slept in darkness. Life was very difficult for our people,” Nana Twumasi Ammkoa III said. “Today, we are happy because our able Member of Parliament, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has ensured that the transformer is fixed and electricity has been restored. We are very grateful to her.”
The chief further commended the MP for her continuous dedication to the development of Wassaman, emphasizing that the restoration of electricity in Pensanom is yet another example of her commitment to improving the living conditions of her constituents.
Residents have since welcomed the return of power with excitement, describing it as a major boost to daily life and economic activity in the area. Many believe the intervention will not only restore normalcy but also strengthen confidence in leadership that listens and responds to the concerns of the people.
The restoration of electricity in Pensanom adds to a growing list of community-focused initiatives attributed to Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe since assuming office.
As development projects, including major road works, continue across the constituency, residents remain hopeful that such challenges will be addressed promptly through collaboration between stakeholders and responsive political leadership.
For the people of Pensanom, the return of light is more than just the restoration of power—it is a symbol of hope, effective representation, and a renewed sense of inclusion in the broader development agenda of Wassa Amenfi Central.
